This site intended function
This site tests the utility of this software in managing an archive of reference questions. The scope is to record the content of the questions more than their total number. One added benefit that it is recognized in this software is the ability for users to rate the answers and leave comments.
The Taxonomy used on this site
The software used on this site mandates the creation of categories under which each question needs to be filed. The need for a taxonomy prompted a research of which resources would be more appropriate as a source of inspirartion. Ultimatly three sources were tapped into which have very different scope and audiences, but seemed, taken together, to be the closest fit for this site objective. These sources are:
- Library of Congress Classification System Outline, freely available online
- Sears, M. E., & Miller, J. (2007). Sears list of subject headings: Joseph Miller, ed. New York [u.a.]: H. W. Wilson.
- Intute Best of the Web, Taxonomy driven portal [http://www.intute.ac.uk/] and its formerly free Thesauri.
